About Unoccupied House Insurance
There are certain reasons as to why a homeowner's property may be vacant or unoccupied for a period of 30 days or more. It maybe that the home is:-
1. undergoing major renovation or refurbishment
2. awaiting probate.
3. in the process of being sold.
4. in the process of being occupied - ie for let.
5. unoccupied due to the homeowner being absent for long periods - ie due to them having a second or holiday home.
If a property is unoccupied for one of the reasons above the homeowner will most likely require specific Unoccupied House Insurance.
Benefits of Unoccupied House Insurance
1. Flexible period insurance policies - the home owner may only require cover for either 3, 6, 9 or 12 months (in some cases this can be extended to 18 months if required).
2. Protect your property against damage caused by water or subsidence.
3. Contents cover from a minimum of £1,000 up to a maximum of £25,000.
4. Property Owners Liability cover up to £5,000,000.
5. 3 differing levels of cover based on the home owners specific requirements .
Please note there are certain conditions and exclusions relating to Unoccupied House Insurance
The property requiring unoccupied house insurance must:-
1. be in a good state of repair and not boarded up.
2. have window locks and five-lever mortise deadlocks.
3. not have major building works being carried out - e.g structural repairs, extensions etc.
Any damaged caused by a contractor will be excluded.
